PTE daily: Find the topic sentence when you reorder

Re-order scores one point for each pair of sentences that sit next to each other in the right order.

Look for the sentence that introduces the person or the place and does not start with “then”, “this”, or “the same”. That sentence usually goes first.

A wrong pair in the middle still allows the other pairs to score. Fix the start, then check that each next sentence refers to something already said.

Read the finished paragraph aloud. If a sentence mentions “the count” before anyone has counted, it is in the wrong place.

  • Put the opening sentence first.
  • Attach each “this” or “then” sentence to the line it refers to.
  • Check the result for which adjacent pairs matched.
