PTE score guide

The mark on this site is a practice score. It is not an official Pearson score and it is not presented as a 10–90 equivalent.

Reading and listening

One correct answer is full marks or zero. Several answers score +1 for each correct choice and −1 for each wrong choice, and the item never goes below zero. Each blank is one point. Re-order scores adjacent pairs. Dictation scores each correct word. Highlight Incorrect Words adds a point for a real difference and subtracts a point for a word you mark by mistake.

Writing

A written summary must be one sentence of 5–75 words. An essay must be 200–300 words. An email must be 50–120 words. A spoken summary is checked for 50–70 words. Grammar and ideas are not auto-graded. An admin can add a content mark later.

Speaking

Read Aloud and Repeat Sentence score the script words heard in the recording. A short answer is full marks or zero when the heard words match an accepted answer. Other speaking tasks score recognised speech. There is no fake pronunciation score.
