IELTS daily: Read the questions before a long passage

IELTS Reading gives you the questions and the passage together. The questions tell you what to look for.

Read the headings or the first words of the questions. Then scan the passage for the same names, dates, and unusual words.

Do not start at paragraph one and hope you remember it. You will not hold four paragraphs in your head.

If a question says “not given”, the passage may talk about the topic without stating that fact. Similar is not the same.

  • Spend a minute on the questions only.
  • Find the paragraph that contains the keyword.
  • Answer from that paragraph, then move on.
